I've been trying out the new Photoshop CC. As much as I hate the idea of "renting" software, I'm really digging the new PS.

PS CC has improved the importing of 3D objects into a scene. So, I've been working on my compositing skills.

I kit bashed this mech from a couple different mechs I've modeled. Now it is on patrol in Sarajevo circa 1995.

Serbian Mech on Patrol.

The base picture I found on Google Images. I modeled the mech and tank, but the soldiers are from DAZ. I added the burning city behind just using PS brushes. Not bad, but I wouldn't concider this to be a complete picture. I don't like the atmosphere. I'm not sure what it needs. Perhaps a bit darker? Also, there is too much empty real estate. I'm not sure if the picture would be improve if I added more foreground stuff, or simply cropped the picture,.. I might try both. Either way, at some point, I'll come back to this.

Kansas Pacified

I don't remember when I modeled this ship. '08 maybe? The original render (which I previously posted) was pretty plain. I did no post on it at all. I've revisited this with some smoke and snow. It looks better than it did,... but, yeah,.. the composition is still lacking in my opinion.

Rhino

Did some modeling today. This a semi tractor from the near future. I used MODO 701. These are unmodified renders, no post in Photoshop was done. I just slapped some colors and textures on it for the render.

There are no detail yet. I need to add: door handles, lights, air tank petcocks, gas tank detail, engine access panels and vents, maybe a few antennas. ....not to mention,.. the interior.

I might tweak the cab some. The more I look at that "V cut" in the front windshield, the less I like it.

Little update,... Just a few more mech related items to add:

Mechs in Snow,... Modo & Photoshop CS5

I'm loving my Large Wacom Tablet! It makes drawing in Photoshop a breeze.

For my general drawing and concept design I've been using SketchBook Pro. It's powerful and only cost $60 bucks. Check out the Free Trial.

I've also been working on some more realistic mech parts. My goal is to eventually rig and animate some mechs, but rigging this many moving parts is currently beyond my skills. In the meantime, I'm tweaking the models in order to make the physically work.

I kind of fell back on my knowledge of helicopter powertrain systems in order to add to the realism of the rigs. I'm going to have to adjust the lenth of the hydraulics and possibly the size and location of the mounts to allow for full range of motion,...

More to follow,...

more Mining Bot

A bit of PS post,... just something quick.

I really need to refine this model. There are a ton of inaccurate technical details that are making my OCD act up! ;)

I guess I'll add a bit more for this mining robot. Here's how it eveolved.

First,... the concept.
Then, the proxy model.

Then,.. some details.

I'll add more detailed pics soon,....
perhaps a few more,...

...ships

Hello abandonded blog! here's a few golden oldies.

I need to add some new stuff,... maybe fairly soon?

Spaceship- Destroyer

Those who know me well are probably wondering where the hell the spaceships are! ...well,.. here's one of my own design. Don't mind the textures,.. I was just screwing around with them mostly.

Sci-Fi Armored Personnel Carrier

here is an APC I came up a while back. Some of the parts,.. like the turret are only proxys (place holders) One of these days,.. I'll finish this model!

Bell 406/407 Swashplate

Here is a Bell 406/407 Swashplate I did about a year ago. This is much better than the Blackhawk rotor head for two reasons: 1,) I had learned more of Modo (2.) I had an old OH-58D Tech Manual on PDF from when I worked at Ft. Hood. So, I used Photoshop to get the orthographic projections from the book, and used them as backdrops to model from.

Outer Ring- as seen from Modo

Another view of the outer ring. Added Outer Cap and hardware,.. and bearings.

Inner Ring

Support Assembly.

This was probably the most difficult part I had ever modelled at the time.
This took me several hours to get right,.. and there are some minor errors,.. but only a few people out there would ever spot them! :D
Complete Assembly

Not too shabby,.. it's still missing alot. Hardware mostly.

Exploded view!
